Acupuncture for Period Pain

Have you experienced pain during menstruation so bad you can’t get out of bed due to the pain? Many women are experiencing this painful condition on a monthly basis and can even disrupt daily activities. This condition is known as menstrual cramps or dysmenorrhea which is the pain a woman feels during her period. Pain from cramps can range from mild to severe.

Normally, pain can be tolerable and is considered one of the annoying parts of any woman’s menstrual period. It will typically last 12 to 72 hours which begins one to two days before the period starts or when the actual bleeding starts. Normal symptoms one may experience are aching pain in the belly and pain in the hips, back, and inner thighs. However, there are more severe symptoms that would include vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea. If you want to know more about how to relieve these symptoms, look for acupuncture services.

There are typically two types of Dysmenorrhea a woman may experience. Primary dysmenorrhea refers to recurrent pain, but no known health conditions are associated with it. On the other hand, secondary dysmenorrhea refers to the pain that is caused by a reproductive system disorder such as Fibroids and Endometriosis. Check out acupuncture for women for an effective treatment for primary dysmenorrhea.

Dysmenorrhea, particularly the primary type, is a monthly struggle most younger women experience. It is important to combat the symptoms with a healthier and more holistic approach which can be beneficial for the body in the long run. Here are some of the remedies to help you curb the symptoms:

1. Exercise regularly

Studies show that exercise when done regularly often results in less menstrual pain. Women can also opt for more outdoor physical activities such as biking, swimming, and hiking which will greatly help in reducing the pain during menstruation.

2. Manage stress effectively

Stress has a direct effect on women’s hormones and in turn, affects monthly periods. This has a direct role in causing irregular or missed periods. It could also affect how heavy the flow is and the length of the menstrual cycle. Given this, stress can result in more painful periods.

A good practice to manage stress is through meditation which can help you feel more relaxed and release negative energy in the body.

3. Eat a healthy and balanced diet

Eating foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nuts can decrease inflammation in the body which can help in relieving menstrual cramps. As much as possible, avoiding caffeine and alcohol is also advised as to not worsen period pains.

4. Try Acupuncture treatment

Acupuncture is a thousand-year-old traditional medicine that involves inserting extremely thin needles on strategic points in the skin. Some studies show that acupuncture for women can help regulate the cycle and lessen period pain by normalizing blood flow. Unlike over-the-counter pain relievers and NSAIDs drugs which only relieve pain for a short period of time, acupuncture promotes a decrease in period pain in the long run. Not only that, but it will also help in the relaxation of the body and can ease anxiety due to menstrual cramps.
