With the constant alarming news about coronavirus disease, it is hard to stay calm nowadays. The thoughts of “feeling trapped” and isolated during this pandemic make it challenging to maintain healthy mental wellbeing. These struggles are even harder for people who are already suffering from anxiety disorders.

Coping with anxiety is paramount, especially during this health crisis. Treatments such as psychotherapy and/or medications should be done to help treat anxiety. On the other hand, people are also doing acupuncture for anxiety disorders as an alternative treatment.

How Does Acupuncture Treat Anxiety Caused By Coronavirus Disease?

As we all know, acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that uses the insertion of very thin needles through the skin at specific spots of the body. Through this, the life force “chi” in your body will achieve its normal energy flow. Generally, acupuncture for mental health relieves the negative tensions, such as the fear of being out of control and being unable to tolerate uncertainty, the exact things COVID-19 is doing to us.

With the help of acupuncture for anxiety therapy, we can get numerous benefits that will help us to get through in our daily lives. Here are some of the reasons why acupuncture is excellent in treating anxiety disorders.

It reduces stress.

The pandemic makes us change our usual routine and adapt to new normal habits such as practicing superior hygiene, observing social and physical distancing, wearing masks, avoiding mass gatherings, etc. While these changes and demands can cause significant stress to many of us, acupuncture is a great tool to help us regulate our mood by lowering stress hormones that can cause anxiety.

It enhances mental clarity.

Without a clear mind, people can result in cloud thinking, poor memory, and confusion. It is hard to carry out simple tasks and decisions if we don’t take care of our mental health. On the other hand, reports show that acupuncture for mental health can boost your mental clarity, which can result from increases in energy. Also, people who suffer from insomnia report improvement in the quality of their sleep.

It can help to boost immunity.

Since there is no vaccine for COVID-19 yet, strengthening our immune system is the best way to defeat the virus once it enters our bodies. By increasing red and white cells, acupuncture therapy treats immune deficiency and strengthen a weakened immune system.

Other tips in keeping your mental health at its best.

  • Choose the kind of information you are consuming. Instead of watching and reading overwhelming news about COVID-19, go straight to the official sources and follow the recommendations to fight against the virus. Also, be sure to give yourself a limit from the pandemic-related news.
  • Have some time to do meditations that can help manage your daily stress. It can help you release stress and tension from your body. There are lots of meditation tutorials that you can check online.
  • Be sure to do physical exercises at home. You can do yoga or any other exercise that you are comfortable in doing.
