Pain is a thing we often see on the faces of athletes who sustain sports injuries. This is typically followed by reduced function like limping or inability to make normal movements.

Sports injuries can happen to any active individual who participates in organized sports, training sessions, competitions, or fitness activities. There are lots of reasons why sports injuries occur including improper training, accidents, and absence or lack of safety or protective equipment.

In 2017, almost 2 million sports related injuries were reported in the United States alone.

Sports injuries are generally classified into two categories:

Acute Traumatic Injury

This type of injury is usually caused by a single application of force, such as a fall during a basketball game or a sprain during a martial arts competition. These injuries can happen to even elite athletes and are difficult to predict or prevent.

Chronic Injury

Sometimes called overuse injury, chronic injury happens as a result of repetitive training. This type of injury is common in runners, basketball players, tennis players and other sports enthusiasts.

Sprain and strain are the most common injuries in sports. They usually affect the joints and the tissues that surround them. They are painful, and they are usually associated with inflammatory responses like swelling, redness or discoloration, and reduced range of motion of the injured part. One of the most common and conventional treatments of sports injuries involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation, or (R.I.C.E), but lately, many athletes and sports therapists have found acupuncture as an effective treatment that quickly suppresses inflammation and swelling.

Injuries are not uncommon in both amateur and professional sports, and some of the most common experiences associated with an injury include “deep and dull” pain, tingling sensation, numbness and related sensations around the site of the injury. There are instances when the injured individual has difficulty locating the pain, although they can reproduce the sensation by making particular movements.

Acupuncture Relieves Sports-Related Pain and Injuries

Traditional Chinese Medicine can help to alleviate the pain by addressing the injury through acupuncture in Broomfield. It is not a new treatment approach for pain relief. In fact, it has been practiced in the east for centuries, and it is still considered as a primary means for relieving or alleviating pain. Through hundreds of years many acupuncture techniques were developed, and lots of them, including treatment from a Broomfield acupuncture service, are proven to stop pain and improve recovery time.

Acupuncture has a successful record of treating sports injuries including strains, sprains, and pain in different parts of the body including the ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbows, shoulders, and neck. Aside from its ability to treat pain and injury, acupuncture is also known to enhance muscle and joint flexibility to improve athletic performance. In fact, many modern professional sports teams have acupuncturists on their staff.

Recently, acupuncture has gained popularity in the United states. It is now recognized by the National Institute of Health as an acceptable approach for treating pain.

If you are an athlete or sports enthusiast, there is no denying that you will eventually suffer from sports-related aches or injuries.

Injuries can happen. It’s the reason why you must keep yourself ready with an effective approach to relieve pain and treat injuries. Let our Broomfield acupuncture service help treat your pain and increase your performance!
